Sometimes we think our goal is to stop binging. That if we had this, everything else would be on lockdown. The to-do lists we’ve had piling up will magically cross themselves off, the relationship issues lurking in the background will clear up like the blue summer sky, and all will be well.
Let’s pause, though. I want to invite you to re-assess your goal. Because, the truth that I want to share with you today is, you are far more powerful than you know, and that once you put a dream out into the ether, once you speak a goal from your heart to the heart of the universe, it starts to take on a momentum of its own.
The wheels start turning. Life starts to move you in the direction of achieving and receiving your goal.
With this in mind, wouldn’t it be smart to ask yourself, will this really make me happy?
Geneen Roth started mentioning early on in her books that being thin won’t necessarily make you happy. That’s what I’ll say about binging. It won’t necessarily make you happy. I know that can be hard to believe when that seems like the biggest fire in need of putting out in your life. And I am not saying don’t put it out, or don’t want to put it out.
What I am saying, though, is don’t just reach for an end to the binges.
Reach for happiness, and make that your goal.
Close your eyes and imagine how it would feel to live with that peace and contentment in your heart ~ not based on external circumstance ~ based on your own inner knowledge of how to be happy.
Like a honed skill.
And, taking care of yourself will be part of that. Naturally, it will come along for the ride.
Keep your eye on the real prize, though, and the rest will naturally fall into place.
Yours, with deep trust in the wicked ways of life,
